Mr. Federico Bruno is a 31 year old athlete from Argentina.
- On 12 October 2022 the Athlete provided a sample during the 2022 South America Games (1# sample).
- On 25 April 2023 the Argentinian Anti-Doping Commission (CNAD) subjected the Athlete to sample collection out-of-competition (2# sample).
- In July 2023 the South American Sports Organization (ODESUR) reported an anti-doping rule violation against the Athlete after his 1# sample tested positive for the prohibited substance Erythropoietin (EPO).
- In August 2023 CNAD reported another anti-doping rule violation against the Athlete after 2# sample also tested positive for EPO.
Following notification in July 2023 the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) ordered a provisional suspension. Thereupon the Athlete's request for lifting the provisional suspension was dismissed and analysis of his B sample confirmed the result of the A sample (1# sample).
- On 21 February 2024 the Athlete admitted the anti-doping rule violation, waived his right for a hearing and accepted the sanction proposed by ODESUR (1# sample).
- On 20 March 2024 the Argentinian National Disciplinary Anti-Doping Tribunal (TNDA) decided to impose a 4 year period of ineligibility on the Athlete (2# sample).
- On 17 June 2024 the ODESUR Disciplinary Panel decided to disqualify the Athlete's results at the 2022 South America Games (1# sample).
The ODESUR case was referred to the AIU and in August 2024 the Athlete was notified about determination of further consequences. Hereafter the Athlete failed to respond to the AIU communications.
The AIU determines that the Athlete's 1# and 2# positive test result shall be considered as one single anti-doping rule violation. Furthermore there are aggravating circumstances present in these case that justifies the imposition of a more severe sanction.
Because the Athlete did not respond within the set deadline the AIU rules that the Athlete was deemed to have waived his right for a hearing and accepted the consequences. In addition the AIU establishes that he had had failed to sign and submit the Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violations and Acceptance of Consequences Form.
Therefore the AIU decides on 10 September 2024 to impose a 6 year period of ineligibility on the Athlete, starting on the date of the provisional suspension, i.e. on 18 July 2023.
