CAS 2015_A_4006 IAAF vs ARAF & Yuliya Zaripova & Rusada
April 25, 2016
Ms. Yuliya Zaripova is a Russian Athlete competing in the Women’s 3000m steeplechase Athletics event at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
In 2016, the IOC decided to perform further analyses on certain samples collected during the 2012 Olympic Games. These additional analyses were performed with analytical methods which were not available in 2012.
In July 2016 the International Olympic Committee reported a anti-doping rule violation against the Athlete after her 2012 A and B samples tested positive for the prohibited substance dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol). After notification the Athlete failed to respond.
On 12 October 2016 the IAAF reported to the Commission that they already had sanctioned the Athlete under IAAF Rules. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld this IAAF sanction on 24 March 2016 and imposed a 2 year and 6 month period of ineligibility on the Athlete with disqualification of her results between 20 July 2011 and 25 July 2013 including her results from the 2012 Olympic Games.
Because the IAAF reported that the Athlete was already sanctioned the IOC Disciplinary Commission decides on 10 November 2016:
1.) The proceedings are filed.
2.) The IOC and the Russian Olympic Committee are invited to implement the existing decision disqualifying i.a. the Athlete’s results achieved on the occasion of the 2012 Olympic Games.
3.) The IAAF is invited to consider whether to proceed or not with result management in respect of consequences beyond the Olympic Games, which could go beyond the scope of the already issued decision.
