In November 2015 the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has reported an anti-doping rule violation against the Athlete after his sample tested positive for the prohibited substance D-methamphetamine.
Previously in 2012 a 15 month period of ineligibility was imposed on the Athlete after he tested positive for Methylhexaneamine (dimethylpentylamine).
After notification the Athlete admitted the violation, waived his right for a hearing and accepted a provisional suspension and the sanction proposed by the ITF.
Following investigations into the source of his positive test, the Athlete explained that he had smoked fruit‐flavoured tobacco (shisha) through water pipes at two bars in Sofia, Bulgaria in September 2015. He believed that it was contaminated with D‐methamphetamine and provided factual and scientific evidence in support of the claim.
In view of the evidence the Tribunal accepts that the violation was not intentional and finds that the Athlete acted with No Significant Fault or Negligence.
Considering this is his second anti-doping violation the ITF Independent Tribunal decides on 1 October 2017 to impose a 2 year period of ineligibility on the Athlete starting on the date of the provisional suspension, i.e. on 14 November 2015.
